Just like I may be one of the only New Englanders to dislike IPAs, I may have just as popular opinion about the worth of AI in my world.

That worth is next to none.'

Now, your mileage may vary, and different AI engines may very well provide different answers of different worth, but from my limited experience with AI-generated answers to Web search questions, I find AI extremely lacking, and I cringe when I imagine the growing number of people who rely on what AI says as THE LAW.

Allow me to offer a couple of examples to support this opinion.  Take them for what they may or may not be worth, but for me- they happened, are documented, and provide absolutely nothing to support the hype of AI.

• I used to ride a Harley-Davidson cruiser, and asked The World why my leather vest would ride up on me when I ride; I have a slight gut, and figured that it was helping to push the vest up as I rode.  The AI answer: 'many bikers have found that tying a concrete block to the vest will keep it in place while riding.'
• I asked a very specific question of some software that I use at work.  I received an answer that disagreed with what I thought I knew about the software, and said, 'So, such and such happens when I do X and Y?'  I received in response, 'Good catch.  I need to correct my earlier statement.'

These points do NOT add anything to the credibility of AI.  In fact, it has only reinforced my opinion: it is called 'Artificial' for a reason.  The very word 'artificial' means something that isn't genuine, real, or authentic; it is fake.  And so it is here.

I suppose I'm blacklisting myself in every IT forum and future technology employment opportunity for my blasphemous opinion, but I'm entirely comfortable with that because as far as AI is concerned, aside from helping me to draw Marvin the Martian- I just choose to do better.

Just do better.

If you have trouble reading or writing- read more of the written word.  If your speech leaves something to be desired- speak more often.  I find that as we rely more on technology and less on our mind, it gets weaker, and the vicious circle of relying more on computers because of that weakness will never end.  That, plus we're all looking for the easiest and most pleasant route available so that we can get on with the next thing (don't get me started on 'most people can be classified as some combination of fat, lazy, and/or stupid').  I see an increasing amount of correspondence at work that I know is generated artificially, and I know that somehow, somewhere, we will just end up suffering for it.  Remember what someone said about computers, and how our workdays will get shorter and there will be more time to enjoy life?

Yea, me too.

Speaking of 'doing better' I don't typically review what I wrote because I can never appreciate the same flavor of the article, and end up taking it apart and wrecking it.  It seems like this time, since it has been such a long time since I've written anything- I don't want to review any of this....
